The Jeffree Starr Androgyny Palette – Fierce Face Fridays

On Fierce Face Friday my aim is to share with you a makeup or skin care item(s), technique, tip, or tool that makes me feel gorgeous. I hope these little nuggets will inspire you to try something new or tell me about something that works for you. Do you agree? Disagree? Sound off in the comments below. If you have a Fierce Face topic you’d like me to cover, feel free to reach to me directly and I will make every attempt to feature that topic in a future post.

It’s hard not to gush about this product. For starters, when I first started watching You Tube Beauty gurus, Jeffree Star was the first guru I watched voraciously. He is refreshingly honest and I liked that he is just as likely to recommend a $5 lipstick as a $50 lipstick. It didn’t take long before I decided I needed to try some of his products. I held off as long as I could since I already had a ton of things to try but eventually I caved. The first thing I bought was the Androgyny Eyeshadow Palette.

The Jeffree Star Cosmetics Androgyny Eyeshadow Palette First Impressions

When the palette arrived, I ripped into it with the fervor of a 5 year old on Christmas morning. The packaging is just what I would expect from Jeffree, PINK and a little over the top but still tasteful. I adore the faux-leather finish and the gold accents. After taking a moment to absorb the beauty of the packaging, I opened it to find the out of this world, incredible, amazing eyeshadows (too much gushing? sorry).

I had watched about 15 videos, all exclaiming how large the pan size of the eyeshadows is but I think you have to see it to believe. The amount of each shade is roughly four or fives times the size of the average eyeshadow palette. It is really generous. In the pans, the mattes look gorgeously pigmented and like flat velvet just waiting to be used. The metallics sparkle in the light and look high fashion and not like like the glitter shadows we all used back in the 90’s. I immediately started swatching on my arm and exclaiming aloud to an empty room about the pigment and how stunning they are.

The palette also comes with a huge mirror. My only complaint is that the palette won’t stay open on its own so I have to prop it up to use the mirror hands free. It is a minor complaint that does nothing to dull my love of the palette.

The Jeffree Star Androgyny Eyeshadow Palette in Action

I am very impressed with the formula of the palette! I finger swatched it on my hand first and the shadows are very soft and extremely pigmented. They looked beautiful on the skin with no primer and there is almost no fall out from the pan when swatching.

On the eyes they perform just as well. I have tried them with and without primer and have used various primers (although the Urban Decay Primer Potion is my usual go to). I’ve used many types of brushes of numerous price points and it works with all of them. The eyeshadows go on true to color and can be manipulated easily to perform the way you want them to perform. If you want a softer look, they will blend easily for a muted and softer look. If you want to be BOLD, you can pack on the color for opaque and intense coverage.

There is more fallout with brushes than with my finger but still very little compared to other high end shadows. I just gently tap my brush. Very little falls on my cheeks and what does is easily swept away with a fluffy brush.

I am wearing the palette in my headshot for this site as well as in my first few You Tube videos. Several times a week, I find myself reaching for it. My favorite of the colors is Military, which is a perfect olive green. It is my desert island eyeshadow. I’d wear it every day if I had to pick one color.

How Much is it and Where Can I Buy it?

The Jeffree Star Androgyny Eyeshadow Palette retails for $45, which is a great price for what you get. It can be purchased in a few places. However, after weighing the options, I recommend buying directly from Jeffree Star Cosmetics or from Beautylish, which is where I got mine. Beautylish has a very generous program whereby you can stock up and pay in 3 installments with no questions asked. It is a great deal for people trying to build a kit or how maybe want to try something before it sells out but have trouble affording the full price at once. I could write an entire post on Beautylish as their customer service is that good.

This is another product that has some fakes for sale out there so make sure to buy from a reputable shop!

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Androgyny Eyeshadow Palette:

Pros:

  • Gorgeous packaging with a sizable mirror
  • HUGE pan size with tons of product
  • Gorgeous colors – both the mattes and metallics are excellent
  • Rich pigment that blends easily and applies well with and without a primer
  • Minimal fallout

Cons:

  • This is not a drug store product, so the price is an investment
  • Does not contain a shade that works for all over the lid, so if you want one you’ll have to use another product

Clearly, I love this palette. Jeffree knocked it out of the park with the colors, formula, and packaging. The shades have a good mix of muted and intense. Even the most intense colors will blend out to work appropriate look for even the most conservative office. There is a place for this palette in everyone’s makeup collection.
